History of the game

This board game was patented by Charles Darrow in 1943, but its roots date back to 1904 with a game by Lizzie Magie that had two sets of rules, for the games Prosperity and Monopoly. The board game is still produced by Hasbro, who also participated in the creation of its Live version by Evolution Gaming, who introduced Monopoly Live in 2019. That same year, it won the EGR Game of the Year 2019 award.

Game rules

The domain of this gambling game is a huge wheel divided into 54 colored fields. On 48 of them, there are numbers 1 (22 fields), 2 (15 fields), 5 (7 fields), and 10 (4 fields), which can multiply the player’s bet when spun. The remaining six segments include three fields named “2 ROLLS”, one field “4 ROLLS”, and two fields labeled “CHANCE”. Players then successively place bets on the segments they believe will be chosen when the wheel stops. The entire game is accompanied by a commentary from a host, who spins the wheel. The maximum achievable win is set at €500,000 (equivalent to over 12 million CZK)

How to play Monopoly Live

As derived from the rules above, this game is very simple and intuitive. The task of the players is to place a bet on the field(s) they anticipate will bring them a win. The indicator of the specific field is located at the top of the playing wheel. If a player bets on a field with a number and that guess is correct, their bet is multiplied by that number (1x, 2x, 5x, and 10x). The remaining fields have special functions.

Chance

If a player bets and lands on Chance, Mr. Monopoly, who spends most of his time on the couch, rewards them with a card. It features a certain cash prize or a random multiplier that multiplies any potential win in the next round (up to 10x). If a player gets a multiplier, all bets remain in place and wait for the result of the next spin. If multiple multipliers are won consecutively, their final value is multiplied.

Rolls

If a player bets on these fields and they land, they gain access to the bonus 3D game Monopoly, which looks like the board game. Other players who did not bet on this field just watch and wait to rejoin the game. Here, the player rolls two dice to move Mr. Monopoly around the board. Depending on whether they are playing 2 Rolls or 4 Rolls, they roll the dice two or four times. If they roll two sixes, they get an extra roll. They then gradually collect bonus multipliers on the board ranging from 1 – 100x. These can be increased up to ten times if a multiplier has been assigned to the field in advance.
