Popular multiplayer game Baldur’s Gate III (source: store.steampowered.com)
Some quests are too much for a single adventurer, so they must join forces with their comrades to defeat evil… or rob a bank. Multiplayer games are focused on playing with multiple players (the opposite being single-player), and there are several subgenres of these video game titles.
General information
Most modern games include multiplayer, with some designed specifically for playing with others. In today’s article, however, we will not focus on PvP titles like League of Legends or Counter Strike, nor MMORPG games like World of Warcraft or Lineage, but instead on video games that team you up with your friends against the game itself. This type of multiplayer game is called cooperative (co-op) and emphasizes player collaboration, including communication, planning, and supporting each other in tough battles and solving complex puzzles. Multiplayer games from our list will bring hours and hours of fun to groups of friends, with gameplay at a high level.
PayDay 3
Put on your masks with up to three other players and dive into the shady world of heists. Museums, banks, and even the White House await your visit, but in PayDay, nothing is free. Be prepared to use sharp wits and precise shooting because one wrong move can mean the arrival of the police and deadly SWAT teams. Whether you choose a quiet and stealthy approach or storm in through the front doors with guns blazing is up to you.
Deep Rock Galactic
In the mining simulator Deep Rock Galactic, you and your teammates (1-4 players) take on the role of dwarves. Each has a different specialization: one mines faster, another specializes in fighting bugs that come after you. In the game, you complete various missions, which include not only mining minerals but also stealing insect eggs from their home planet. After successfully completing a mission, you can upgrade your dwarven miners at the base to face increasingly difficult challenges.
Core Keeper
Mining minerals and exploring dark corners is also the main theme in the sandbox game Core Keeper. Sharpen your pickaxes and weapons because the vast caves will not give up their contents easily, and many secrets are hidden underground. Build your underground base, upgrade your weapons, and uncover the mysteries of an ancient civilization in procedurally generated worlds. Thanks to random world creation, each new game will be slightly different, and you and your teammates (1-8 players) will enjoy a lot of fun.
Baldur’s Gate III
The tabletop RPG Dungeons and Dragons has been entertaining groups of friends around the world for fifty years, and today you can try its game system in the video game Baldur’s Gate III. Create any character and embark on a deadly and fun adventure with up to three other comrades. In BG3, nothing is forbidden: you can try sex with a bear or give in to your bloodlust and kill everything in your path. The storylines are strong and well-thought-out, drawing you almost immediately into the fantasy world from which neither you nor your friends will want to leave easily.
Among Us
A bit like a social experiment, a bit like a masochistic game. The multiplayer game Among Us (4-15 players) takes you into the bowels of a spaceship (or on the grounds of a winter base), where you must complete assigned tasks with your colleagues. But not every one of your astronaut friends has good intentions – some are tasked with killing the entire crew. When a dead body is discovered, a meeting is called, and within a limited time, each must present their testimony or accusation. Cunning communication, sharp tongues, and calculating behavior are daily bread in Among Us. Will the crew survive and complete all their tasks, or will they be killed one by one?
Valheim
Proud Viking warriors are brought to Valhalla after death, where they can feast with other warriors, but some are thrown into Valheim. There, Vikings must prove they are truly worthy of staying in Valhalla. Those Vikings are you and your friends (1-10 players). Crafting basic weapons and building a base is essential, as is seafaring and discovering islands with various biomes. Each world is randomly generated, so no map from the internet will help you. The goal given to you by Odin himself is to defeat several bosses, but first, you must reach them, which is not as easy as it seems. Valheim gives its players nothing for free and is a very successful multiplayer survival title.
