Eurojackpot is a transnational European number lottery, currently operated by 18 countries (Czech Republic, Slovakia, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Slovenia, Spain, and Sweden), making it the most widespread lottery in the world. In the Czech Republic, Eurojackpot is represented by Sazka a. s. The goal of the bettor is to guess 5 numbers out of 50, which are drawn, and 2 supplementary numbers (so-called euro numbers) out of 12. The odds of hitting the main prize (jackpot) are more than 139 million to one. The maximum possible win is €4,800,000. Bettors have a total of 12 prize levels available. Draws take place every Tuesday and Friday in Helsinki at 8 PM local time (7 PM CET).
The inspiration for the creation of Eurojackpot was the great success of another European lottery Euromillions. The first idea for a new lottery emerged as early as 2006 and was conceived by representatives of Denmark, Finland, Germany, the Netherlands, and Slovenia. The first ever Eurojackpot draw took place on March 23, 2012, and Estonia joined the above-mentioned participants. The Czech Republic joined the draw in October 2014. The joining of individual countries:
The first winner of the current maximum jackpot of €4,800,000 was a lucky person from Denmark in July 2022. Just under four months later, a bettor from Germany followed suit. The biggest Czech win in history was a jackpot of €3,600,000 in May 2015. At the then-current exchange rate, it was 2,466,000,000 CZK.

How can you quickly find out if luck smiled on you? Check your ticket online with the official intermediary, which in the Czech Republic is Sazka. On their website, go to the “LOTTERY” section, where you click on Eurojackpot and then click the “CHECK BET” button. A window will open where you select the draw date you want to check and then fill in the numbers you bet. Once you fill in the columns, just press “CHECK BET” and the result will appear.
If you have a registered account with Sazka and have bet on Eurojackpot online, the check is easier. Just log into your account and click on “MY BETS” (after logging in, you will find it at the top right next to your profile). Through the app, you can also scan the barcode of a classic paper ticket and find out in a few moments whether you have won. In your account settings, you can set it so that the results of your bets are sent to you via SMS or email.
Of course, there is also the option to check a classic paper ticket at Sazka’s sales points. The staff simply scans the barcode and tells you how you did. They will then return your ticket to you.
You can also check your ticket directly on the official Eurojackpot website. In the “Prize Check” section, select which draw you want to check and fill in the numbers you bet. Below we provide direct links for checking.

If you want to try your luck and join the chase for the jackpot, as a citizen of the Czech Republic, you have two options. The simpler and faster option is to register with Sazka, which allows you to bet online from the comfort of your home or via a mobile app. The other option is to visit a Sazka sales point (newsstands, post offices, gas stations, shops, etc.) and fill out the betting slip manually. For both cases, we have a photo guide directly from Sazka’s website.
Every number lottery is subject to certain rules that must be followed. This applies, for example, to the amount of the maximum guaranteed payout, the payout percentage (the return of the selected sum back to the bettors expressed as a percentage), the preservation of the anonymity of the winners, the presence of a notary, the draw time, etc. We will discuss the important ones.
Have you won a huge amount and want to remain anonymous? In the Czech Republic, you have the full right to do so. Lottery companies cannot publish your name or photo without your consent. This right was used by the only Czech jackpot winner to date. You can arrange with the representatives of the company where you won for a safe handover of the prize. However, to achieve one hundred percent anonymity, be careful about whom you brag to. Surely you will agree that in such a situation it is difficult for anyone to keep quiet.
With a win that can change a person’s life, there is also a certain change in lifestyle. If you suddenly quit your job and start spending huge sums on expensive cars, luxury vacations, etc., you will quickly draw attention to yourself. If you want to remain anonymous, you should handle your winnings carefully. It will help you to take time to think and carefully plan how to manage the amount.
All jackpot winners are guaranteed a win of at least €400,000 (depending on the exchange rate, this is a win of about 10,000,000 CZK). The maximum cap for Eurojackpot is set at €4,800,000 (around 120,000,000 CZK). The average win for the 1st prize is approximately 1,570,000,000 CZK.
The Eurojackpot lottery draw is conducted in the presence of a notary and requires two tested and certified drums containing numbered balls. From the first drum, 5 numbers out of 50 (numbers 1 to 50) are drawn, and from the second 2 numbers out of 12 (numbers 1 to 12).
The draw takes place every Tuesday and Friday in Helsinki, Finland at 8 PM local time (7 PM CET). The announcement of winners is made in Germany and Denmark. The Extra 6 supplementary game draw takes place in the Sazka recording studio in Prague in the presence of a state notary. The game, as its name suggests, is divided into 6 drums, each containing 10 numbers (0 to 9). One number is drawn from each drum, forming the winning combination of 6 numbers.
We have already mentioned that the jackpot ranges from €400,000 to €4,800,000, with each draw changing according to the amount of bets and the number of winners. You can take the whole win with just one column bet, which will cost you 60 CZK.
According to the numbers guessed, prizes are divided into twelve levels. To win the jackpot, you need to hit 5 numbers from the main drum and both numbers from the second drum. For the lowest prize, it is enough to correctly guess two numbers from the main drum and one supplementary number from the second drum.
If no one guesses the required numbers for the main win, the jackpot rolls over to the next round. When the jackpot reaches the maximum limit of €4,800,000, all extra money moves to the second level, then to the third, etc. The average win for the 2nd prize is approximately €600,000 (15,000,000 CZK).

Since 2022, when the maximum reward was increased to €4,800,000, the record jackpot has fallen twice. The first lucky winner was a Danish bettor, who purchased their ticket in a supermarket in the town of Blåvand. Their Danish colleague was followed a few months later by a German bettor. German bettors appear among the winners most frequently, which is due to the fact that they participate the most among all member states.
The first and only Czech so far to successfully guess all seven numbers needed for the jackpot was a bettor from the Pardubice region in May 2015. The win of €3,600,000 converted to Czech crowns brought him approximately €98,640,000 (2,466,000,000 CZK). Since 2015, Eurojackpot has already made 80 Czech clients millionaires (they won over €40,000 each, translating to over 1,000,000 CZK).

It is said that the chance of winning the lottery jackpot is much smaller than being struck by lightning. We may not know the exact probability of being struck by lightning, but we do know the odds of winning the Eurojackpot. Let’s take a look at it. It is clear that the lower the prize level (fewer numbers guessed), the higher the chances of winning. The odds of winning in the Eurojackpot start at 49.0 (for the 12th prize level) and end at over 139 million (jackpot).

The amount you pay to participate in the draw depends on the number of columns you fill out and whether or not you participate in the Extra 6 supplementary game. You can play for the jackpot from as little as €2.4 (60 CZK), which is the price you pay for one column. Extra 6 costs an additional €1.6 (40 CZK). The price of a full ticket (6 columns + Extra 6) is €16 (400 CZK). Placing a full ticket is also a condition for participating in the Eurojackpot premium games, which are only available to Czech bettors (e.g., competition for a luxury motorhome, a trip around the world, a Land Rover, etc.).
Premium games refer to supplementary games for tangible prizes paid out of the Eurojackpot supplementary lottery premium fund. This fund is created from the exchange rate difference between €1.2 (30 CZK) and the €/CZK rate on the draw day. This game is only for Czech bettors who place a full ticket for €16 (400 CZK).
Premiums are drawn at irregular intervals, and you can find out about the current premium at least 7 days in advance on Sazka’s website, at sales points, or in TV commercials. Examples of premiums played for in 2023:
Winners can choose to take their prize in cash. In this case, they will receive the financial equivalent of the prize from Sazka, reduced by the tax specified by law.
All tickets that meet the game conditions are entered into the draw for tangible premiums or cash prizes. The confirmation code of the bet is crucial for determining the prize. Winning codes can be found on Sazka’s website or in the mobile app after the Eurojackpot draw. In the case of online betting, you will find the information about the win directly in your account. When checking the ticket at a sales point, the staff will inform you about the win.

In addition to the premium games, Czech bettors can participate in the supplementary game Extra 6, which is drawn directly in the Sazka recording studio in the presence of state supervision and a notary. In Extra 6, you can play for up to 80,000 CZK. Participation in the draw is automatic and costs 40 CZK. If you are not interested in participating in the game, mark this option on your ticket. However, note that participation in the Extra 6 game is a condition for participating in the premium games for tangible or cash prizes.
You do not need to guess any numbers in the game. The winning number is determined by the last six digits of the ticket serial number (for a classic paper ticket) or a randomly generated six-digit number (for an online ticket). When checking a bet on a paper ticket, the numbers are checked from the last number. The more matching end numbers, the bigger the win. You can play Extra 6 with just one column bet.
Thanks to the statistics available on the official lottery website, we have a perfect overview of the history of drawn numbers. In the long term (after an infinite number of draws), the probability of all numbers being drawn should of course even out, but because the Eurojackpot is drawn twice a week and its history is not that long, we can observe certain percentage differences between individual numbers (although they are negligible). Let’s look at the most and least frequently drawn Eurojackpot winning numbers expressed as a percentage of cases in which they were drawn (statistics as of June 2023).

Lottery winnings are taxed like other income. As of January 1, 2024, the exemption limit for income from gambling taxes was reduced from the original one million to 50,000 CZK. From now on, all winnings exceeding this limit will be reduced by a 15% withholding tax. However, players have no obligation to report or pay this tax themselves, as the lottery company deducts the tax from the winnings and pays it on their behalf.
Individual winnings within one tax period are not added together, which means that each win is taxed separately. So, if in one tax period you win successively €1,600 (40,000 CZK), €1,200 (30,000 CZK), and €1,600 (40,000 CZK) on three lottery tickets (a total of €4,400 or 110,000 CZK), the winnings will not be taxed because each of them fits within the €2,000 (50,000 CZK) limit.
Your winnings depend on the number of correctly guessed numbers, with a total of 12 prize levels. The first prize (jackpot) ranges from €400,000 to €4,800,000, so you can win almost 120,000,000 CZK!
To play Eurojackpot online, you need to have an active account with Sazka. After logging into your account, go to the “Lottery” section where you can place your Eurojackpot bet. You can also use the mobile app.
It depends on the amount of your winnings. Individual winnings that do not exceed €2,000 (50,000 CZK) are tax-exempt. In the case of lottery winnings of €2,000 (50,000 CZK) or more, they are taxed with a withholding tax that the lottery operator, Sazka, pays. You receive the net winnings that are yours after tax, so you don’t have to worry about paying the tax yourself.
