How does a combi ticket work?

Betting on combo tickets is unusually popular among Czech bettors compared to abroad. Can the high winnings, which require a hefty dose of luck, be the reason?

A combined bet slip (also known as a system bet, combo, combi, maxicombi, etc.) is a specific type of bet slip that consists of at least 2 (usually more) opportunities, which together on the slip create winning combinations. From our perspective, betting on anything other than SOLO bets is not worthwhile, but we are happy to tell you more about this type of bet.

What is a combined bet slip?

In a so-called combo, you group your picks into groups that combine based on your preferences to create winning combinations. Individual groups can be made up of either one pick or multiple picks (this is usually called a maxicombi). In this respect, it depends on the bookmaker where you bet and their game plan. Each company also has a different total number of matches you can place on the slip, or a maximum winning limit.

Winning combinations of a system bet

Once you have selected matches sorted into individual groups (A, B, C,…), it is time to create winning combinations. The total amount of the stake will depend on how many combinations you want to play.

  • For example, you can create 5 groups (A, B, C, D, and E) and bet on a 3/5, 4/5, and 5/5 system bet. All groups will then create winning combinations:
    • 3/5 (10 combinations) = ABC, ABD, ABE, ACD, ACE, ADE, BCD, BCE, BDE, CDE
    • 4/5 (4 combinations) = ABCD, ABCE, ACDE, BCDE
    • 5/5 (1 combination) = ABCDE
  • To win something, you will need at least 3 groups to win.
  • You can choose the stake for each system bet separately, e.g., bet 10 CZK (€5) per combination on 3/5 (= 100 CZK (€10) in total), bet 20 CZK (€10) per combination on 4/5 (= 80 CZK (€10) in total), and bet 30 CZK (€15) on 5/5. In total, you have bet 210 CZK (€10).

At Czech bookmakers, the situation is quite clear, but you need to be more careful if you bet with a foreign bookmaker. There, you might encounter less commonly used terms for individual winning variants in system bets. Typically, you will only be able to include one pick in each group.

  • Trixie: you bet 3 picks, from which 4 combinations will be created (3 double combinations – AB, AC, BC; 1 triple combination – ABC)
  • Patent: you bet 3 picks, from which 7 combinations will be created (3 single bets, 3 double combinations, 1 triple combination)
  • Yankee: you bet 4 picks, from which 11 combinations will be created (6 double combinations, 4 triple combinations, 1 quadruple combination)
  • Lucky: you bet 4 picks, from which 15 combinations will be created (4 single bets, 6 double combinations, 4 triple combinations, 1 quadruple combination)
  • Super Yankee or Canadian: you bet 5 picks, from which 26 combinations will be created (10 double combinations, 10 triple combinations, 5 quadruple combinations, 1 quintuple combination)
  • Lucky 31: you bet 5 picks, from which 31 combinations will be created (5 single bets, 10 double combinations, 10 triple combinations, 5 quadruple combinations, 1 quintuple combination)
  • Heinz: you bet 6 picks, from which 57 combinations will be created (15 double combinations, 20 triple combinations, 15 quadruple combinations, 6 quintuple combinations, 1 sextuple combination)
  • 63: you bet 6 picks, from which 63 combinations will be created (6 single bets, 15 double combinations, 20 triple combinations, 15 quadruple combinations, 6 quintuple combinations, 1 sextuple combination)
  • Super Heinz: you bet 7 picks, from which 120 combinations will be created (21 double combinations, 35 triple combinations, 35 quadruple combinations, 21 quintuple combinations, 7 sextuple combinations, 1 septuple combination)
  • Goliath: you bet 8 picks, from which 247 combinations will be created (28 double combinations, 56 triple combinations, 70 quadruple combinations, 56 quintuple combinations, 28 sextuple combinations, 8 septuple combinations, 1 octuple combination)
  • Block: you bet 9, 10, 11, or 12 picks; in this system, all possible combinations will be included (double combinations, triple combinations up to ninefold combinations, or twelvefold combinations)

When does it make sense to bet on combined bets?

If you enjoy betting and are willing to invest some money into your hobby, then try combined bets. You will surely enjoy it, and with each successful pick on the slip, the excitement will grow, so there will be no shortage of enjoyment. Moreover, you might get lucky and hit a big win. However, if you are serious about betting, forget about combined bets and focus solely on SOLO bets with a positive expected value, so-called value bets. That is the only way to achieve long-term and regular profit.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a combined bet slip and an ACCA bet slip?
In an ACCA bet slip, you need all opportunities on the slip to win. In a combined bet slip, you can win even if some picks don’t win. It depends on how you have allocated your stake.
Can I place combined bet slips everywhere?
Not all bookmakers offer the option to place combined bet slips. Among those that do, there are significant differences. Always try to find out the information in advance. Usually, local bookmakers like Tipsport or Fortuna allow the most flexibility when creating combos.
Is it better to bet on a combined bet slip or a single bet?
The more opportunities you add to a bet slip, the lower the chances of winning logically become. It is no coincidence that almost all profitable bettors stick to SINGLE bets.
Is a combined bet slip suitable for beginners?
A combined bet slip can be more complicated for beginners to manage, so they should start with simpler single bets first.
What are the chances of winning a combined bet slip?
The chances of winning depend on the number of combinations and the probability of individual bets. More combinations increase the chance of partial win.
