How to make money from betting

Every bettor has asked the question of how to make money from betting at least once in their life (source: pixabay.com)

If you have come across this article, it is more than likely that you already have some experience with sports betting, and like the vast majority of the betting population, you are in the red, with the best of you just breaking even. If you are in shock right now, don’t worry, it will get worse. If you want to get into the black numbers, you will have to change something. And every change hurts. That’s the introduction.

The best sportsbooks

Maximum 1% of bettors win

According to data from bookmakers, only about 1% of bettors are profitable. Not 5% or even 10%, as some articles on the Czech internet claim! And this includes all those who randomly hit a high win on a nonsensical accumulator during their “career.” In reality, it will be even less. There are interesting articles on this topic backed by analyses and calculations by experts (look for articles by analysts such as Joseph Buchdahl).

Good news: we are only talking about profits and losses from betting itself. Potential bonuses and competitions, from which something can also be earned, are not included in the profit.

Can we take something positive from this? Definitely, and that is that there are indeed bettors who know how to make money from betting in the long term. At this point, the question arises: What are they doing differently? The answer is simple. They bet on value odds (in English, this term is known as value betting). Eureka! Mystery solved, just change your mindset and overhaul your current strategy and slowly start planning how you will handle the regular influx of money. At this moment you realized (should have realized) that this is irony. It’s not that easy.

Value betting – betting on value odds or how odds work

Since we cover value betting in the article Value betting – betting on odds with positive expected value, there is no point in writing at length here. It is enough to mention that understanding odds is the alpha and omega of success. Without knowing how odds “work,” you simply cannot do without.

Open an account with as many companies as possible and maximize your profits

However, there is one universal advice related to value betting that everyone who wants to make money from betting should follow: always bet the highest available odds! What does that mean in practice? Imagine a football match in the Spanish La Liga between Barcelona and Celta Vigo, where you want to bet on Barcelona’s win and based on detailed analysis, you are convinced that the listed odds of 1.50 are valuable. You bet 1,000 CZK on Barcelona and their win brings you 1,500 CZK (net profit of 500 CZK). But what if you had accounts with multiple bookmakers and used the highest possible odds, which was not 1.50, but 1.65? You would win 10% more, specifically 1,650 CZK (net profit of 650 CZK)! Does it seem negligible to you? Then you probably don’t know that in the long run, every hundredth counts. There is a huge difference whether you are five percent in the red or five percent in the black. And exactly that is the “negligible” difference of ten percent, which you gained extra! Value betting is the most important and at the same time the most difficult thing you can do to become a profitable tipster. If it were easy, more than 99% of bettors wouldn’t be in the red long-term. Fortunately, there are still other, less demanding ways to extract more money from bookmakers than you put into them.

Take advantage of bonuses

The primary function of bonuses is to attract new customers and ideally turn them into regular customers. Companies operating bookmakers are well aware that bonuses and various promotions work perfectly as bait. That’s why there are so many available everywhere. It is up to you to use them wisely. There are many types of bonuses. More information on individual types can be found in the Bonuses section. The most popular among Czech bettors are so-called free bonuses for registration and verification. These are typical for bookmakers with a Czech license. The principle is simple. You register, verify your identity, and the bookmaker will credit a certain amount to your account for your first free bets! In this way, you can get up to €100!

Reload bonuses, free bets, cashback, and more

There are many more interesting bonuses! Some companies offer, for example, a so-called reload bonus. This is a bonus similar to the aforementioned deposit bonus, with the difference that it can be used regularly (usually once a week). So-called free bets, which are free bets offered in various forms, are also very popular. A common variant is a risk-free bet, which typically means that if the ticket is lost, the amount staked will be returned to you. Another version of the free bet involves making a deposit of a certain amount, for which you will receive a free bet (e.g., deposit €10 and get a €20 free bet). You can also encounter, for example, cashback. As part of this promotion, the bookmaker will return part of the lost money back to you in the form of a bonus. But there are also other offers. It is good to know about them and regularly check the promotions section in the bookmakers where you have an account.

Participate in competitions

Another way to improve and turn your betting into a profit is through competitions in the Czech bookmakers Tipsport and Chance. It is a relatively easy way to earn a reward in the form of nets (Tipsport) or goldens (Chance), which are means you can use to place your tickets without having to invest your own money. The most famous are the year-round Tipliga, Tipcup, and Pyramid. In addition, thematic competitions related to major sports events, such as Tipbank, Survivor, Biathlon Six or Tipovačka, are often seen. Take advantage of this opportunity and compete for interesting rewards, which you can then turn into extra money! Detailed information about the competitions can be found in a separate article, which we link to.

Write analyses and get inspired by profitable bettors’ analyses

Another project through which you can earn extra rewards is analyses, which give bettors the opportunity to share tips and information about individual matches. In addition to inspiring others with your analyses, you can also get inspired by tips from successful bettors and gain an advantage over bookmakers. The best analysts can earn up to tens of thousands of nets (or goldens) per month. And that’s a decent extra income, isn’t it? Anyone with an active betting account at Tipsport or Chance can become an analyst. You can get more detailed information about analyses from the attached article.

Conclusion

In this article, we introduced several ways you can improve your betting and make it a profitable hobby. The basis of success is, of course, betting on value odds. This is the only right way to achieve a consistent income purely from betting without any side activities. If you succeed in this, you can congratulate yourself because you belong to a handful of individuals who make money from betting. But we know very well how challenging it is today, so we ourselves help to make a profit through bonus offers and other opportunities that we mentioned in the text. And to everyone who doesn’t want to lose money in betting, we advise doing the same.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do bettors who make money from betting really exist, or is it a myth?
It is not a myth, profitable bettors do exist, but their number will not be as high as sometimes stated in similar articles. An optimistic estimate is somewhere around 1%, but in reality, it will be an even smaller portion of bettors.
Is it possible to make a living from sports betting?
In the Czech Republic, given the limits successful bettors are subjected to, it is almost impossible to do so over a long period. It is a beautiful idea, but pursuing a professional betting career carries such risks that we recommend seeing betting as a pleasant form of extra income to regular employment or business.
What is bankroll management?
Bankroll management is a technique of managing finances intended for betting. It helps minimize the risk of losing the entire capital and ensures that the bettor can bet long-term without financial problems.
What is value betting?
Value betting is betting on odds that are undervalued by the bookmaker. The bettor believes that the probability of winning is higher than the listed odds.
